What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Bft's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the standard transfer fee is not specified; however, there are instances where a franchisee must pay an administrative fee instead. If the franchisee is an individual transferring to an entity wholly owned by that individual, the administrative fee is $750. If the transfer is to an immediate family member, the administrative fee is $1,500.
In addition to the transfer fee, if a franchise broker is owed a commission in connection with the purchase of the Bft studio, the proposed transferee must pay Bft a sourcing fee of $30,000. The FDD outlines several conditions that must be met for a transfer to be approved, including signing a general release, upgrading the studio if necessary, ensuring the transferee completes required training programs, and settling all outstanding debts to Bft and its suppliers.
These fees and conditions are typical in franchising to ensure that the new franchisee is adequately trained and financially stable, and that the Bft brand standards are maintained. The administrative fees are lower for transfers within the franchisee's immediate control, while a sourcing fee is required when a broker is involved, potentially increasing the overall cost of the transfer significantly. A prospective franchisee should carefully consider these costs and conditions when planning for a potential transfer of their Bft franchise.
