What This Means (2024 FDD)

According to Better Blend's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are required to use Toast as their point-of-sale (POS) system, which includes various features like electronic cash registers, screens, printers, management tools, payroll, scheduling, operating controls, and payment processing. The initial purchase of Toast, along with associated hardware and systems, is estimated to cost between $2,000 and $4,000. While Better Blend is not obligated to provide ongoing maintenance, repairs, upgrades, or updates, franchisees are required to maintain a monthly subscription for Toast.

Better Blend franchisees must upgrade or update the Toast system whenever Better Blend determines it is necessary. The FDD states that there is no contractual limit on the frequency or cost of this obligation. The FDD estimates that the annual cost of optional or required maintenance, updating, upgrading, or support contracts will be $4,800 to $5,500.

Better Blend also requires franchisees to provide them with independent access to all information generated or stored within the POS system, including sales, customer data, and reports. There are no contractual limitations on Better Blend's right to access this information. This level of access and control over the POS system and its data is fairly common in franchising, allowing the franchisor to monitor performance and ensure brand consistency across all locations.
