What This Means (2024 FDD)

According to Better Blend's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, Better Blend franchisees are required to use Toast as their point-of-sale (POS) system, which includes various features like electronic cash registers, screens, printers, management tools, payroll, scheduling, operating controls, and payment processing. The estimated initial cost for Toast and associated hardware ranges from $2,000 to $4,000. However, Better Blend is not obligated to provide any ongoing maintenance, repairs, upgrades, or updates for the POS system. Franchisees are only required to maintain their monthly Toast subscription.

Better Blend can require franchisees to upgrade or update the POS system at any time, without any contractual limitations on the frequency or cost of these obligations. The estimated annual cost for optional or required maintenance, updates, upgrades, or support contracts ranges from $4,800 to $5,500. Franchisees must also provide Better Blend with independent access to all data generated or stored within the POS system, including sales, customer data, and reports, without any contractual limitations on Better Blend's access rights.

This arrangement places the responsibility and cost of maintaining and updating the POS system on the franchisee. While Better Blend mandates the use of Toast and can require upgrades, they do not provide direct support or cover the associated expenses beyond the initial setup. Franchisees should factor in these potential ongoing costs and the risk of mandated upgrades when evaluating the financial aspects of the franchise.
