What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Best Western's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, properties that were AAA/CAA designated Diamond-rated and OA properties on December 31, 2007, must maintain both the AAA/CAA designated Diamond-rated designation and OA designation throughout the term of their Best Western membership. The only exception to this rule is if the Best Western franchisee receives written communication from the President of BWI stating that the AAA/CAA Diamond-rated designation and/or OA designation is no longer a requirement for that specific property's membership.

This requirement ensures that Best Western properties maintain a certain level of quality and service, as determined by AAA/CAA's Diamond ratings. The OA (Official Appointment) designation also signifies a certain level of approval and partnership with AAA/CAA. By maintaining these designations, Best Western aims to provide a consistent and reliable experience for its guests, which can enhance the brand's reputation and customer loyalty.

For a prospective Best Western franchisee, this means understanding and adhering to the standards required to maintain both AAA/CAA Diamond-rated and OA designations. Failure to do so could result in a loss of these designations, potentially impacting the property's reputation and standing within the Best Western system. However, it is important to note that Best Western's President can provide an exemption, indicating that the requirements can be flexible under certain circumstances. Franchisees should maintain open communication with Best Western to stay informed of any changes to these requirements.
