Answer from 2025 FDD Document

A Scoop U-certified franchisee or manager is required at each location on a full-time and best-efforts basis. This person can include either:

  • (a) You (as an individual or as an owner of a beneficial interest in the franchisee, who we approve) or
  • (b) Your manager of a soon-to-be-opened shop (if you will not be the on-premises supervisor of the shop on a full-time basis)

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Ben Jerrys's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a Scoop U-certified individual is required at each location. This individual must be present on a full-time basis and use their best efforts in the role.

This requirement can be fulfilled either by the franchisee themselves (if approved by Ben Jerrys as an individual or owner with beneficial interest) or by a manager designated to supervise the shop full-time. This ensures that each Ben Jerrys location has someone on-site who has completed the brand's training program and is knowledgeable about its operations and standards.

The initial Scoop U training is provided for up to two trainees before the shop opens, and for one additional trainee within the first six months of opening. This training must be completed to Ben Jerrys's satisfaction before the shop can open, and the company may provide additional training to ensure the franchisee meets the requirements of Scoop U. If the franchisee cannot successfully complete the training, Ben Jerrys will refund the initial franchise fee.
