What was Belocal's policy regarding the initial franchise fee for Bridge Publications last year?
Belocal Franchise · 2025 FDDAnswer from 2025 FDD Document
The initial franchise fee for a Franchised Business is $735. However, we are waiving the initial franchise fee for franchises offered or entered into on or after the Issuance Date of this disclosure document that facilitate the publishing of a new publication, unless this disclosure document is amended to reflect otherwise.
We reserve the right to charge the initial franchise fee of $735 if the franchise is for the management of a publication that was formerly a Bridge Publication.
If we were to charge a franchise fee, the fee would be non-refundable and due in a lump sum. Last year, we uniformly waived the initial franchise fee for both new publications and Bridge Publications.

What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Belocal's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the company's policy last year was to waive the initial franchise fee for both new publications and Bridge Publications. The standard initial franchise fee for a Belocal franchise is $735, but this fee is waived for franchises offered or entered into after the issuance date of the FDD that facilitate the publishing of a new publication.
Belocal retains the right to charge the $735 initial franchise fee if the franchise involves managing a publication that was formerly a Bridge Publication. However, the FDD explicitly states that this fee was uniformly waived for both new and Bridge Publications last year. This means that prospective franchisees acquiring a Belocal franchise to manage a former Bridge Publication would not have been required to pay the initial franchise fee.
This policy could be beneficial for individuals looking to take over an existing Bridge Publication under the Belocal franchise model, as it reduces the upfront investment required. However, it is important to note that Belocal reserves the right to change this policy in the future, as indicated by the statement that the waiver applies "unless this disclosure document is amended to reflect otherwise."
Prospective franchisees should confirm the current fee policy with Belocal at the time of their inquiry to ensure they have the most up-to-date information. They should also inquire about any potential changes to the fee structure in subsequent FDD amendments.
