What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Belocal's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, any new concepts, processes, or improvements developed by a franchisee, their staff, or principals in the operation or promotion of their franchised business become the property of Belocal. The franchisee must promptly notify Belocal and provide all necessary information about the new process or improvement without any compensation.
This means that if a Belocal franchisee develops a better way to market the business, a more efficient operational procedure, or any other kind of improvement, Belocal owns it. Belocal can then use or share these improvements with other franchisees as they see fit.
This is a fairly standard clause in franchise agreements. It allows Belocal to maintain consistency and quality across all franchise locations and to leverage the collective knowledge of its franchisees. While the franchisee who developed the improvement does not receive direct compensation, the potential benefit is that their idea could be implemented system-wide, potentially improving the brand and business for everyone. Prospective franchisees should consider this when deciding whether to invest in a Belocal franchise, as it means they will not own any intellectual property they develop related to the business.
