If a Belocal franchisee develops a new concept or improvement, is the franchisee compensated?
Belocal Franchise · 2025 FDDAnswer from 2025 FDD Document
If you, your staff, or your Principals develop any new concept, process, or improvement in the operation or promotion of your Franchised Business, you must promptly notify us and give us all necessary information about such new process or improvement, without compensation. You, your staff, and your Principals agree that any of these concepts, processes, or improvements will become our property, and we may use or disclose them to other franchisees, as we determine appropriate.

What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Belocal's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, if a franchisee or their staff develops any new concept, process, or improvement related to the franchised business, they must promptly notify Belocal and provide all necessary information without receiving any compensation. This means that Belocal retains ownership of any innovations created by its franchisees.
This policy has significant implications for prospective Belocal franchisees. While franchisees are encouraged to contribute to the system's development, they will not be financially rewarded for their innovations. The new concepts, processes, or improvements automatically become Belocal's property, which Belocal can then use or share with other franchisees as it sees fit.
This is a fairly common practice in franchising, where the franchisor aims to maintain uniformity and control over the brand. However, franchisees should consider this policy carefully, as it means they will not directly benefit financially from their creative contributions to the Belocal system. Franchisees may want to discuss with Belocal how they recognize franchisee contributions in other ways, such as through awards or other forms of acknowledgement.
