What conditions must a Belocal franchisee meet to receive their first commission payment?

According to Belocal's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a franchisee's first commission payment is contingent upon several specific conditions. Firstly, the franchisee must operate as a legal entity rather than as an individual. Secondly, the franchisee needs to secure and provide evidence of all the insurance coverage mandated in Section 12 of the franchise agreement.

Belocal also specifies the timing and method of commission payments. Belocal will calculate commissions on an issue-by-issue basis and pay the franchisee monthly, based on the total monthly commissions earned for each of the franchisee's N2 publications. These payments are typically accompanied by a commission accounting and reconciliation report, providing transparency in the calculation. Belocal retains the right to adjust commission payments based on estimated advertising contract payments and can also refund payments made by advertisers for any reason, which could affect the final commission amount received by the franchisee.

Furthermore, Belocal may request that franchisees enroll in electronic funds transfer (EFT) by completing Attachment F to the agreement, allowing for direct deposit of commission payments. The FDD also states that Belocal will assign a monthly deadline for advertising and content submission within 30 days after the franchisee's first issue is published. Commissions, if any, will be paid to the franchisee within 30 days following this assigned deadline.
