There are no registered patents or copyrights material to your operation of the franchise. There are no pending patent applications that are material to the franchise.

We do, however, claim common law copyright and trade secret protection for many elements of the System including our confidential information (which includes our trade secrets, recipes, supplier information, operational standards, advertising, marketing and brand strategy information, and other information relating to the establishment and operation of a Beggars Pizza® Restaurant that we designate as "Confidential Information" in your Franchise Agreement), our trade dress, copyrighted works, and any designs or processes that may in the future be subject to a patent.

You may not disclose or use, and you must use your best efforts to ensure that no other person discloses or uses (except as authorized by your Franchise Agreement), any of the contents of the Manuals or any of our other trade secrets during or after the term of your Franchise Agreement. What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to the 2025 FDD, Beggars Pizza does not have any registered copyrights or pending patent applications that are material to the operation of the franchise. However, Beggars Pizza does claim common law copyright and trade secret protection for many elements of their system. This includes confidential information such as trade secrets, recipes, supplier information, operational standards, advertising, marketing and brand strategy information, trade dress, copyrighted works, and any designs or processes that may in the future be subject to a patent.

As a franchisee, you are prohibited from disclosing or using any of the contents of the manuals or any of Beggars Pizza's other trade secrets during or after the term of the Franchise Agreement, except as authorized by the agreement. You must also make your best efforts to ensure that no other person discloses or uses this information. However, the Franchise Agreement does not prevent you from disclosing Confidential Information directly to federal or state governmental authorities if it is necessary to report potential violations of applicable law or assist in governmental investigative, enforcement, or oversight efforts.

This means that while Beggars Pizza relies on unregistered copyrights and trade secrets to protect its brand and system, franchisees must maintain the confidentiality of the franchisor's proprietary information. This is a fairly standard practice in franchising, as franchisors typically have extensive operating manuals and confidential information that they want to protect from competitors. Prospective franchisees should carefully review the scope of confidential information covered in the Franchise Agreement to understand their obligations.
