What is the purpose of requiring Beggars Pizza franchisees to purchase items from designated suppliers?

According to Beggars Pizza's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are required to purchase certain items from Begcom or other designated suppliers to ensure uniform quality and image associated with the Beggars Pizza restaurants. Beggars Pizza has developed proprietary, confidential, and trade secret recipes that are part of their system, including pizza dough, spaghetti and pizza sauces, sausage, and secret spice blends. Begcom is the designated supplier of certain additional food items and supplies including cheeses, sausages, and paper products. Some of these items bear the Proprietary Marks, and some do not.

This requirement allows Beggars Pizza to maintain consistent standards across all franchise locations. By controlling the sources of key ingredients and supplies, Beggars Pizza aims to protect its brand reputation and goodwill. Franchisees must adhere to these standards and specifications as prescribed in the manual or in writing.

If a franchisee wishes to purchase products from a supplier not already approved, they must submit a written request to Beggars Pizza for approval. Beggars Pizza may then require an inspection of the supplier's facilities and samples for evaluation and testing, the cost of which is borne by the franchisee. Beggars Pizza will then notify the franchisee of its decision within thirty days after completion of the evaluation and testing. Beggars Pizza may also revoke approval of particular products or suppliers if they no longer meet the franchisor's standards, and the franchisee must cease purchasing from them upon written notice. Franchisees must use products purchased from approved suppliers solely for operating the restaurant and not for any other purpose, including resale.
