Can a Beggars Pizza franchisee withdraw consent for remote connection of the installed software?

Beggars_Pizza Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

Installed products or components may connect remotely to SpeedLine Solutions Inc.'s servers in order to (i) automatically collect and verify licence key, configuration, product usage, telemetry, and error log information for the purpose of license verification, trouble shooting and planning future software enhancements, (ii) provide remote ordering service, (iii) enable use of the software products and online services; and (iv) disable use of the software products and online services by withdrawing their access codes if Customer is no longer authorized to use them pursuant to Customer's agreement(s) with SpeedLine Solutions Inc. Customer hereby authorizes and will permit these remote connections for the foregoing purposes.

Customer may withdraw its consent. Withdrawal of consent may prevent the products and online services from functioning but will not terminate Customer's agreement(s) with SpeedLine Solutions Inc. including Customer's obligation to pay fees which may only be terminated or expire as specified in the agreement(s).

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Beggars Pizza's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a franchisee (referred to as 'Customer' in this context) can withdraw consent for the remote connection of installed software. This software, provided by SpeedLine Solutions Inc., is designed to automatically collect data for license verification, troubleshooting, software enhancements, remote ordering services, and to manage access to the software and online services.

However, withdrawing consent may have consequences. The FDD states that doing so "may prevent the products and online services from functioning." This suggests that certain features or the entire software suite could become unusable if remote connectivity is disabled.

Importantly, withdrawing consent does not terminate the franchisee's financial obligations under their agreements with SpeedLine Solutions Inc. The franchisee remains responsible for paying any applicable fees, which can only be terminated or expire as specified in the original agreements. Therefore, a Beggars Pizza franchisee needs to carefully weigh the potential loss of software functionality against any perceived benefits of withdrawing consent, while still being obligated to fulfill the financial terms of their agreements.
