What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Beem Light Sauna's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees may face competition from outlets that Beem Light Sauna owns. Specifically, the FDD states that franchisees will not receive an exclusive territory and "may face competition from other franchisees, outlets that we own, or other channels of distribution or competitive brands that we control." This means Beem Light Sauna retains the right to operate its own locations, which could directly compete with a franchisee's business.
This lack of an exclusive territory has significant implications for prospective franchisees. It means that Beem Light Sauna could open a corporate-owned location or franchise another unit nearby, potentially drawing customers away from an existing franchisee's studio. This is a notable risk, as it could impact a franchisee's revenue and profitability. The FDD also specifies that Beem Light Sauna and its affiliates have the right to conduct any business activities, under any name, in any geographic area, regardless of the proximity to or effect on your Studio.
Furthermore, Beem Light Sauna reserves the right to establish studios or businesses offering similar services under different names and marks, even within a franchisee's territory. They can also sell products and services through alternative distribution channels like e-commerce, regardless of the franchisee's territory. This broad reservation of rights underscores the importance of understanding the competitive landscape and potential market saturation before investing in a Beem Light Sauna franchise.
While this might seem unfavorable, it is a fairly common practice in the franchise industry, particularly for brands seeking rapid expansion. However, prospective franchisees should carefully consider the potential impact of this non-exclusivity on their business and conduct thorough market research to assess the level of competition in their desired area. It would be prudent to discuss Beem Light Sauna's expansion plans and criteria for selecting new locations with the franchisor to better understand the potential for competition.
