Does Beehive Homes own or operate any Homes themselves?

Beehive_Homes Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

The Franchisor does not and has not conducted or operated any Homes of the type that are to be operated by YOU and, except as described here, neither has any of its predecessors or affiliates. However, certain affiliates of Bee Hive Homes, Inc., including its principals, have operated Homes which are similar to the type being franchised, although these Homes were not operated as franchises. Mr. Twayne K. Walker, principal of Bee Hive Homes, Inc. and its affiliates, has conducted and operated a business of the type to be operated by YOU, having operated up to six Homes of the type being franchised, the first of which was opened in November 1987. These Homes were subsequently sold to third parties. Mr. Dennis R. Toland has conducted and operated a business of the type to be operated by YOU, having operated up to four Homes of the type being franchised, the first of which was opened in November 1991. These Homes were subsequently sold to third parties.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Beehive Homes' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, Beehive Homes does not currently operate any Homes of the type that franchisees will operate. However, certain affiliates and principals of Beehive Homes have experience operating similar Homes, though these were not operated as franchises. Specifically, Mr. Twayne K. Walker, a principal of Beehive Homes, previously operated up to six Homes, and Mr. Dennis R. Toland operated up to four Homes; both sold these Homes to third parties.

This lack of direct franchisor-owned operations could impact a prospective franchisee in several ways. Without company-owned locations, franchisees may need to rely more heavily on the experiences of other franchisees and the training provided. The FDD mentions that training programs are based on the Bee Hive Homes Policy and Procedure Manual and the Bee Hive Homes Owner/Operator Training Outline. Training is conducted by representatives familiar with franchise practices and policies, including individuals like Twayne K. Walker, who has been involved with Beehive Homes since 1987, and Mark Hegele, a former franchisee.

Despite Beehive Homes not operating any Homes themselves, the franchisor does provide a location for the franchisee. The franchisee will be granted a location by the Franchise Agreement, which will be the address of the Home. Beehive Homes will not grant another franchise or operate a company-owned Home within a contiguous geographical area that includes a population of at least 30,000 persons around the franchisee's location without prior written consent. However, the Franchise Agreement does not provide an exclusive territory, and franchisees may face competition from other franchisees.

Prospective franchisees should consider the implications of Beehive Homes' operational structure and the level of support and training provided. While the franchisor's principals have past operational experience, the absence of current company-owned Homes may require franchisees to be more proactive in seeking guidance and networking with other franchisees within the Beehive Homes system.
