Industry Specific Laws. You must comply with a number of federal, state and local laws and regulations which apply to businesses generally and to the construction and operation of hotels. These include environmental laws and those relating to zoning and construction, permits and licensing; public accommodations and accessibility by persons with disabilities; labor; occupational safety; fire safety; health and food storage, preparation and service; privacy and data security; and laws regulating the posting of hotel room rates and the registration and identification of guests. In addition to these laws, laws of general application may have special relevance to hotels. Your business is subject to state and federal regulations that allow the government to restrict travel and/or require businesses to close during state or national emergencies. Because your business is operated as a destination to which your customers must travel, your business can be affected by such orders more than others.
