What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Batteries Plus Bulbs's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a franchisee may request an extension to the deadline for opening their store as stated in the Franchise Agreement. To do so, the franchisee must pay a non-refundable $10,000 extension fee along with the Omni-Channel Fee when making the request.
Batteries Plus Bulbs has the discretion to grant or deny this request. If Batteries Plus Bulbs approves the extension, it will be limited to a period of time that they permit, but it cannot exceed 6 months. This applies to both standard Franchise Agreements and Multiple Unit Franchise Agreements, as extensions under the Development Schedule for the latter are also limited to a maximum of 6 months.
This policy is fairly standard in the franchise industry, as it allows the franchisor some flexibility while also ensuring franchisees are committed to opening their stores in a timely manner. The non-refundable fee incentivizes franchisees to meet their initial deadlines and covers some of the administrative costs Batteries Plus Bulbs incurs when processing the extension.
