What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Batteries Plus Bulbs' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are not allowed to create their own advertising or promotional materials. Instead, they are required to use only the advertising and promotional materials provided by Batteries Plus Bulbs. However, Batteries Plus Bulbs recommends that franchisees spend more than the required marketing contributions.

Batteries Plus Bulbs requires franchisees to participate in the Digital Marketing and Local Media Program, designed to support ecommerce and national performance marketing efforts. Franchisees must contribute the greater of 3% of store net revenues or the Minimum Store Promotion Requirement each fiscal year. Batteries Plus Bulbs determines how these contributions are spent, and franchisees pay the amount monthly. These contributions can be used to reimburse Batteries Plus Bulbs for expenses related to digital marketing and lead generation.

Batteries Plus Bulbs also operates a National Marketing Fund (NMF) which is funded by a monthly fee of 1% of the store's net revenues. These funds are used for national, regional, and local advertising, marketing, promotional, and public relations campaigns. Batteries Plus Bulbs also uses the NMF to develop advertising and promotional materials for regional and local advertising and marketing cooperatives, as well as for use in each franchisee's local market. Batteries Plus Bulbs consults with the NMF Council, consisting of 6 elected franchisees, for advice on advertising, research, and promotional activities.
