What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Basecamp Fitness's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a Principal Owner must register for, pay the registration fee, and attend Basecamp Fitness conferences, if and when they are held. Additional representatives of the franchisee may also attend the conference, as long as they are registered and the then-current registration fee is paid for their attendance. These conferences may be live or virtual events. The franchisee is also responsible for paying for all travel and living expenses incurred by the Principal Owner and their representatives in attending the conference. If the Principal Owner fails to attend the annual conference, Basecamp Fitness will bill the franchisee for the then-current "early bird" (or similar) conference fee after the conference.
Furthermore, the franchisee must designate an individual to serve as the Principal Operator of their Basecamp Studio. This Principal Operator will devote their best efforts to the supervision and conduct of the development and operation of the Basecamp Studio. In addition to other training requirements in the agreement, the Principal Operator must complete all additional training as Basecamp Fitness may reasonably designate. The franchisee and the Principal Operator must attend and participate in any on-site visits by Basecamp Fitness representatives at the franchisee's Basecamp Studio, and the franchisee must participate in any business review calls that are scheduled.
While the FDD outlines the responsibilities and requirements of a Principal Owner and a Principal Operator, it does not explicitly define who qualifies as a 'Principal Owner'. A prospective franchisee should seek clarification from Basecamp Fitness regarding the specific criteria and definition of a 'Principal Owner' to fully understand the obligations and expectations associated with this role.
