Answer from 2024 FDD Document

  • (e) Gross Profit means Gross Sales less Food Cost and Labor Cost.

Gross Profit is not net profit or income and, except as to Food Cost and Labor Cost, does not include the deduction of all other expenses incurred by a Bang Cookies Shop including, but not limited to, payroll taxes, employee benefits, operating expenses (including, but not limited to, rent, utilities, marketing, training, insurance, professional fees, maintenance, administrative and operational expenses), interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.

What This Means (2024 FDD)

According to Bang Cookies's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, the 'Gross Profit' calculation excludes several expenses beyond just food and labor costs. Gross Profit for a Bang Cookies shop is calculated by subtracting Food Cost and Labor Cost from Gross Sales. Food Cost includes the direct costs of food and beverage ingredients and paper goods, while Labor Cost includes gross wages paid to employees for preparing and serving menu items, including managers.

However, the Gross Profit calculation does not account for a wide range of other expenses that a Bang Cookies franchisee will incur. These excluded expenses include payroll taxes, employee benefits, and various operating expenses. Operating expenses specifically encompass rent, utilities, marketing, training, insurance, professional fees, maintenance, and general administrative and operational costs.

Furthermore, the Gross Profit figure does not factor in financial costs like interest, taxes, depreciation, or amortization. This means that the Gross Profit figure presented is not equivalent to net profit or income. A prospective Bang Cookies franchisee needs to understand that the actual profit they take home will be significantly lower once all these additional expenses are deducted from the Gross Profit. It is essential to carefully consider all these potential costs when evaluating the financial viability of a Bang Cookies franchise.
