What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Bambu's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, as a franchisee, you are permitted to use their Bambu system, and it may be modified. However, the FDD does not elaborate on what those modifications might entail, who can make them, or under what circumstances they would be made. It is important to note that Bambu can require franchisees to upgrade, remodel, or replace property and equipment used in operating the shoppe on a system-wide basis.
Bambu franchisees must purchase a point-of-sale (POS) system meeting Bambu's specifications, which is currently the Square bundled system. The cost of purchasing the POS System with two printers and related equipment is currently $2,500, with typical monthly maintenance, updates, upgrades, and support costing less than $100. Bambu can also require franchisees to acquire different or additional hardware, software, and subscriptions to online applications, including different POS System hardware, software, and applications, with 90 days' notice.
Bambu may assign each shoppe an email account that franchisees must use according to the minimum guidelines established by Bambu. Franchisees must review the emails daily and promptly respond to customer complaints and questions. The shoppe Email Account or other SMS methods are the primary source of communications from Bambu regarding the operation of the Bambu shoppe. Franchisees are required to regularly use a device that accesses the Internet, which may be a smartphone with SMS capability, and obtain a data plan with a reputable wireless carrier. The cost of purchasing a smartphone typically ranges from $100 to $1,200, and the cost of a wireless data plan typically ranges from $30 to $60 per month. Bambu has the right to receive and review the information communicated to and from and stored on the shoppe Email Account.
Prospective franchisees should inquire with the franchisor about the nature of potential modifications to the Bambu system, the specific circumstances under which modifications might be required, and who bears the costs associated with such modifications. Understanding these details is crucial for assessing the potential financial and operational impact on the franchise.
