What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to B Bops's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the franchisee is responsible for several key aspects regarding the construction plans and specifications for their franchise premises. B Bops will provide the initial plans and specifications, but the franchisee must cover the expense of transforming these into site-specific plans. This implies engaging local professionals to adapt the standard plans to the actual location.
More critically, the franchisee must ensure that these site-specific plans comply with all applicable codes, regulations, ordinances, lease requirements, and deed restrictions. This places a significant burden on the franchisee to navigate local legal and regulatory requirements, potentially requiring them to work with architects, engineers, and legal counsel to ensure compliance. Failure to meet these requirements could result in construction delays, fines, or even the inability to open the B Bops restaurant.
Finally, the franchisee needs to understand that the plans and specifications remain the exclusive property of B Bops. They must be returned to B Bops after construction. Any modifications to the plans require B Bops's consent, and the person making the modifications must assign their rights to the modified plans back to B Bops. This underscores B Bops's control over the brand's image and design standards, and limits the franchisee's ability to make independent changes.
