What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to Azal Coffee's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, the initial training program includes a total of 20 hours of classroom training. This is broken down into several subjects. One hour is dedicated to Azal Coffee history and menu basics, eight hours are for coffee and menu preparation, and two hours cover permits, POS systems, and safety protocols. An additional nine hours are allocated to other topics. Two hours are for opening and closing the store, three hours for food preparation, handling, labeling, storage, and inventory, two hours for customer service and marketing, and two hours for beverage trials and testing.
The training program is conducted at Azal Coffee's affiliate in Dearborn, Michigan, or another location determined by the franchisor. The length of the training program is approximately 7 days, depending on the franchisee's experience in the coffee industry. The training is provided without charge for up to two people, specifically one designated owner and one general manager. Additional personnel can be trained upon request, but Azal Coffee may charge a reasonable fee for each additional person.
Prospective franchisees should consider the cost of travel and lodging expenses for themselves and their employees during the training program. Additionally, the FDD states that trainees may be required to sign a confidentiality and/or noncompetition agreement before beginning the training program. The Azal Coffee franchise agreement can be terminated if the training program is not completed to the franchisor's satisfaction, or additional training may be required at a rate of $250 per person per day, in addition to travel, labor, lodging, and meal expenses.
