What This Means (2024 FDD)

According to Aplus's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, Aplus does not have any obligation to reimburse franchisees for any costs related to the Computer System. The franchisee is responsible for incurring the costs of obtaining the computer hardware and software, including any additions or modifications, as well as the required service or support.

This means that franchisees must budget for and cover all expenses associated with the Computer System necessary to operate their Aplus store. These costs may include the initial purchase, installation, maintenance, updates, and upgrades. The franchisee is also responsible for ensuring the Computer System complies with Aplus's standards and specifications, as well as all applicable laws and industry standards related to data security and electronic payments.

Furthermore, the franchisee bears sole responsibility for how their Computer System interfaces with Aplus's systems and those of third parties. They are also liable for any consequences arising from improper operation, maintenance, or upgrading of the Computer System, including issues like viruses and spyware. This allocation of responsibility places the financial burden and operational risk of the Computer System entirely on the franchisee.

Prospective Aplus franchisees should carefully consider these technology-related costs and responsibilities when evaluating the franchise opportunity. It is advisable to inquire about the typical costs associated with the Computer System, the frequency of required updates, and the potential for additional technology-related expenses over the term of the franchise agreement.
