What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Angry Chickz's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, there are two conditions that may trigger a franchisee's obligation to refurbish, remodel, and improve their franchised business. First, according to Section 5.5.1, if Angry Chickz determines, in its reasonable judgment, that the state of repair, appearance, cleanliness, or functionality of the Franchised Business does not meet the company's standards, the franchisee will receive written notice of the deficiencies and must correct them promptly. This may include replacing items such as FFE (furniture, fixtures, and equipment), signage, décor, and trade dress, as well as repairing and repainting the interior and exterior of the business.
Second, Section 5.5.2 states that Angry Chickz may require a franchisee to refurbish, remodel, and improve the Franchised Business to conform to the then-current standards for new restaurants. This can occur no more than once every five years during the term of the agreement. It is also required as a condition of the franchisee exercising its Successor Agreement Right. This remodeling may include structural changes, replacement or modification of FFE, décor, and trade dress, and other changes as directed by Angry Chickz.
For a prospective Angry Chickz franchisee, this means they should be prepared to invest in maintaining the appearance and functionality of their restaurant to meet Angry Chickz's standards throughout the term of the franchise agreement. Additionally, they should anticipate a more significant remodel every five years, as well as when seeking a successor agreement, to keep the restaurant aligned with the current brand standards. The franchisee bears the sole cost and expense of these improvements.
