Is participation in purchasing or distribution cooperatives currently mandatory or optional for Anago franchisees?

Anago Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

There are currently no purchasing or distribution cooperatives that you must or may participate in; however, we may negotiate with some suppliers for you, at your request. We reserve the right to establish national or regional purchasing programs in the future. If a national or regional purchasing program is established for the region where your Subfranchise Rights Business is located, you must participate in the program.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Anago's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, participation in purchasing or distribution cooperatives is currently neither mandatory nor optional for franchisees. Anago states that there are no purchasing or distribution cooperatives that franchisees must or may participate in at this time. However, Anago retains the right to establish national or regional purchasing programs in the future, and if such a program is established for the region where a franchisee's Subfranchise Rights Business is located, participation would then become mandatory.

While participation in cooperatives is not currently required, Anago may negotiate with suppliers on behalf of franchisees at their request. This suggests that franchisees have some flexibility in sourcing products and services, but Anago may also facilitate arrangements with suppliers. It is important for prospective franchisees to understand the conditions under which participation in purchasing programs could become mandatory, as this could impact their operating costs and supplier relationships.

It is common in franchising for franchisors to establish purchasing programs to leverage the collective buying power of the franchise system, potentially leading to lower costs and standardized products. However, mandatory participation in such programs can also limit a franchisee's autonomy and choice of suppliers. Therefore, prospective Anago franchisees should inquire about the likelihood of national or regional purchasing programs being established in the future and the criteria that would be used to determine mandatory participation.
